Two Northern Virginia women have founded a website that aims to help women with a cancer diagnosis stay active and strong. It’s called 2Unstoppable.
“The main concept of 2Unstoppable is to partner women diagnosed with cancer, to encourage (and) support physical and emotional fitness both during and after cancer treatment,” said Michelle Stravitz, a PCI-Certified parent coach from Fairfax.
She and co-founder Ilana Gamerman, a registered nurse who lives in Vienna, both have a personal history with breast cancer.
Research and their doctors led to them to try exercise as simple as walking with a friend or doing gentle yoga together. Friends were instrumental in keeping them moving and finding the energy to stay active.
“When I was done with chemo I was astounded at all the survivor seminars I attended,” said Stravitz. “Whether they were on chemo brain, muscle loss or emotional well-being, they all said yes to exercise.”
Through the online matching program, women get paired up based on “needs, interests, abilities and other criteria and then they can get moving together in whatever way works best for them,” Stravitz said.
There is no cost to sign up at 2Unstoppable.org. There are multiple steps in the registration process for safety measures, and each profile is moderated.
Stravitz and Gamerman say their goal is to help forge powerful, motivating and supportive partnerships to encourage physical activity during cancer treatment and long after treatment ends.
