Skoda Rapid facelift might be launched in August this year

After recently introducing the new Superb, Skoda India is planning to launch the updated Rapid in India by August this year. The revised Rapid will get the long overdue exterior and the interior modifications that make it look sleeker.

The updated Rapid will flaunt Skoda’s redesigned front moustache grille and follow the design language as seen on the new Octavia and Superb. The headlamps will be toned down in terms of its current curved shape, and this time will be sharp and aggressive. From the recent spyshots, not many changes can be seen on the side and the rear section. However, we can expect the carmaker to rework the tail lamps by incorporating LED units.

The Rapid’s makeover also includes an updated interior which will be more premium than the current version of the sedan. It is expected to get a new infotainment system with Mirrorlink and an updated upholstery. The car might also get features like rain sensing wipers, cruise control, Climatronic-automatic AC with dust and pollen filter, front centre armrest with rear AC vent and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.

When the 2016 Rapid is eventually launched in the Indian market, it will retain its powertrain options but with slight modifications. These changes might include tweaks to the 1.6-litre petrol mill, which will be tuned for better fuel efficiency. According to reports, the 1.5-litre diesel trim will also get a slight power bump apart from the increase in fuel economy figures. Transmission options including a five-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic will likely be carried over.

The Rapid is Skoda’s highly capable C-segment sedan that hasn’t got a major cosmetic update ever since its launch in 2011 in India. The new updates will bring in the much needed makeover for the car. It will continue to compete with the other C-segment sedans including the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the Fiat Linea in our country
