This past year, it was all about the tortoiseshell highlights. But now that a new year is almost upon us, we couldn’t help wondering: what will be the go-to color trend for 2016? We turned to one of the hottest colorists in Hollywood, Johnny Ramirez (pictured below) of famed salon Ramirez-Tran Salon in Beverly Hills, to get the scoop.

Ramirez, who has colored the tresses of everyone from Jessica Alba (pictured above) and Gwyneth Paltrow to Victoria Beckhamand Miranda Kerr (not to mention the tresses of everyone else lucky enough to snag a coveted spot in his chair lately), sees the trends as they are developing across the country.
“Living in L.A. but working in N.Y.C., Miami, S.F., I get asked to color my lived-in color signature look, which is a look dependent on my client’s skin tone, eye color and cut,” Ramirez tells InStyle. “Hairdressers have to be aware of the client’s skin tone. Everyone has their own unique genetic makeup.”
Just one look at his Instagram for #inspo, and you’ll find countless images of perfectly sun-kissed tresses, all of which display Ramirez’s magic touch.

“I want every woman to have timeless, kid-like color—Victoria’s Secret hair,” says the colorist, who was inspired by his upbringing in East L.A. while perfecting his California hair. Based on the look of every Victoria’s Secret model that walked the runway at this week’s show, it appears that bombshell color is definitely having a moment.
What does the look that everyone is after entail? Think natural, beachy hair with gradiated highlights. Basically, the dye job should look like you just spent the afternoon soaking up rays, as opposed to sitting in a salon chair. This au naturel-looking color also allows for less frequent trips to the salon, because roots grow out more subtly due to the darker roots and lighter ends.
Less maintenance and sexier color? Happy New Year, indeed.
