The number of children doing an hour of exercise a day falls by nearly 40% between the ages of five and 12.

More than 1,000 children aged five to 11 were questioned, with their parents acknowledging that being active made their children feel happier (79%), more confident (72%), and more sociable (74%).
But the survey also found that children’s overall happiness declined with age, with 64% of five-and six-year-olds saying they always felt happy, compared with just 48% of 11-year-olds.
“Children’s physical activity levels in England are alarmingly low, and the drop in activity from the ages of five to 12 is concerning,” said Public Health England’s Eustace de Sousa.
“Children who get enough physical activity are mentally and physically healthier, and have all-round better development into adulthood – getting into the habit of doing short bursts of activity early can deliver lifelong benefits.”
Currently, just 23% of boys and 20% of girls, between the ages of five and 15, meet the national recommended level of activity, according to an NHS report published last December.
“Not being very good” was cited by many children as the reason they did not take part in some physical activities, with older children more likely to be self-conscious than their younger counterparts: 29% of 11-year-olds compared with 17% of five-year-olds.
As part of the Change4Life campaign, Sport England and Disney have joined forces to launch a 10 Minute Shake Ups programme, encouraging children to take part in accessible activities across the school holidays.
“The 10 Minute Shake Ups provide a load of fun activities to get kids moving more,” said Olympic marathon swimmer Keri-anne Payne, who is backing the campaign.
“Being active is not just for Olympians, it’s for everyone. ”

When it comes to e-cigarette safety, flavorings added to the liquid nicotine burned in the devices may influence how much the fumes lead to health problems, a recent study suggests.
Researchers tested vapor released by a variety of devices filled with some popular e-cigarette flavors – tobacco, pina colada, menthol, coffee and strawberry – to compare levels of chemicals known to cause inflammation and cell damage. They also looked at how much these chemicals appeared in tobacco smoke and in smoke-free air.
As expected, cigarette smoke was more toxic than fumes from e-cigarettes, said senior study author Maciej Goniewicz of Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.
E-cigarettes, however, had more toxic chemicals than smoke-free air, especially when the devices had higher power or voltage and when used with flavored liquid nicotine.
“We found that strawberry-flavored product was the most toxic among all liquids we tested,” Goniewicz added by email.
The researchers exposed human lung cells in a dish to smoke, e-cigarette vapors and air. The cells reacted most strongly to smoke, by reducing their metabolic activity and increasing output of inflammation-related chemicals. Similar, but not as strong, reactions were seen with e-cigarette vapor, compared to no change with plain air.
Past research has found that higher-voltage e-cigarettes produce a bigger nicotine jolt, but may also increase levels of dangerous chemicals like formaldehyde.
“Our findings raise some concerns about the safety of additives used in e-cigarettes,” Goniewicz said. “If an e-cigarette user experiences any side effects, for example cough or chest pain, he or she should consider changing the flavorings in the product and operating their device in lower-power settings.”
Big U.S. tobacco companies are all developing e-cigarettes. The battery-powered gadgets feature a glowing tip and a heating element that turns liquid nicotine and flavorings into a cloud of vapor that users inhale.
An international review of published research by the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews last month concluded that the devices could help smokers quit but said much of the existing evidence on e-cigarette safety was thin.
The current study doesn’t offer a complete picture of e-cigarette safety or address the potential for health problems to emerge after long-term use, the authors note.
But it does suggest flavors may have an outsize impact on safety, the authors conclude in the journal Tobacco Control.
A separate study in the journal looked at cinnamaldehyde, a chemical added to liquid nicotine to create cinnamon flavors.
In lab tests of fluids from 39 refill cartridges of liquid nicotine, 20 contained enough cinnamaldehyde to damage cells, the study found. This included products labeled as cinnamon flavored as well as a variety of sweet and fruity mixtures.
Here, too, the level of toxicity appeared greater with higher voltage devices.
“We previously showed that cinnamaldehyde was highly toxic when tested in vitro with various types of cells,” said senior study author Prue Talbot of the University of California, Riverside.

Understanding these concepts is critical to fully understanding crash dumps and being able to decipher their clues.”
So, while WinDbg provides the data about the state of a system when it fell over,Windows Internals turns that cryptic data into actionable information that helps you resolve the cause.
A memory dump is a copy or a snapshot of the contents of a system’s memory at the point of a system crash. Dump files are important because they can show who was doing what at the point the system fell over. Dump files are, by the nature of their contents, difficult to decipher unless you know what to look for.
Windows 10 can produce five types of memory dump files, each of which are described below.
1. Automatic Memory Dump
Size: Size of OS kernel

With many systems having multiple GBs, this can quickly become a storage issue, especially if you are having more than the occasional crash. Generally speaking, stick to the automatic dump file.
4. Kernel Memory Dump

Kernel dumps are roughly equal in size to the RAM occupied by the Windows 10 kernel, about 700MB on my test system. Compression brought it down nearly 80% to 150MB. One advantage of a kernel dump is that it contains the binaries which are needed for analysis. The Automatic dump setting creates a kernel dump file by default, saving only the most recent, as well as a minidump for each event.
5. Small Memory Dump (a.k.a. a mini dump)
