The whole ‘no pain, no gain’ thing holds a lot of credence within the health and fitness world, but what if we were to tell you that taking it easy can be a more effective method?

Personal trainer and nutritionist to the stars Harley Pasternak has revealed that walking is actually the best way to burn body fat.

Running

According to Business Insider, although you’ll burn more calories per minute with more intense forms of cardio like running which is a form of low intensity interval training (LIIT) , more of these will come from non-fat sources in your body. But if you want to work on shifting some of your excess fat, low intensity cardio is your guy because it heads straight to your fat reserves and starts burning there.

Harley also says that those who push themselves too hard with their exercise have more chance of reaching for a sugary or fatty snack as a reward.

There are a variety of ways to incorporate LIIT training into your fitness regimen. The important thing to remember is that you are altering your normal pace at various intervals of the workout.

One way to do this is to walk five to eight minutes at your normal pace. Then gradually increase your speed and hold that pace for 90 seconds. You don’t want to increase your pace to an extent that you can’t catch your breath, but enough that you feel the extra exertion. Return to your normal pace for three to five minutes, then add another faster interval of 90 seconds. Continue this routine for 30 total minutes. A good power-walk is the best option, although it looks funny your sure to get results.
